STANDING COMMITTEES

COMMERCE & GOVERNMENT MATTERS COMMITTEE


The Commerce and Government Matters Committee was created in January 1994. The Committee is assigned legislation relating to banks, credit unions, and financial institutions; civil rights; elections; electronic commerce; ethics; local government; minority business enterprises; procurement; and transportation, including highways, bridges, light rail, and vehicles. Twenty-three delegates serve on this committee.

Under the Commerce and Government Matters Committee, five subcommittees function: Ethics and Elections; Financial Institutions; Motor Vehicles; State Government and Procurement; and Transportation.

ETHICS & ELECTIONS SUBCOMMITTEE
The Ethics and Elections Subcommittee began in 1995.

FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS SUBCOMMITTEE
The Financial Institutions Subcommittee started in 1995.

MOTOR VEHICLES SUBCOMMITTEE
In 1995, the Motor Vehicles Subcommittee originated as the Transportation and Motor Vehicles Subcommittee. In 1998, it reformed as the Motor Vehicles Subcommittee.

STATE GOVERNMENT & PROCUREMENT SUBCOMMITTEE
The State Government and Procurement Subcommittee stemmed from two subcommittees created in 1995: the Procurement Subcommittee, and the State Government and Civil Rights Subcommittee. They merged in 1999 to form the present subcommittee.

TRANSPORTATION SUBCOMMITTEE
The Transportation Subcommittee began in 1995 as the Transportation and Motor Vehicles Subcommittee. It reformed as the Transportation Subcommittee in 1998.
