The Forensic Sciences Task Force was authorized by the Governor in January 2000 (Executive Order 01.01.2000.04). The Task Force was to make recommendations on developing cooperative working procedures among the State's crime laboratories. It also proposed a statewide master plan to coordinate services and staff training guidelines as required by the federal Paul Coverdell National Forensic Services Improvement Act of 2000. In addition, the quality of existing forensic services, new equipment and technology, and potential sources of federal funding was considered by the Task Force.

The Task Force reported to the Governor and General Assembly in October 2001.
