The Statewide Commission on the Crisis in Nursing convened a summit on June 6, 2000 to identify and prioritize issues involved in the crisis in training, recruiting, and retaining nurses. In July 2000, the Commission was authorized by statute (Chapter 258, Acts of 2000). Recommendations will be made by the Commission on strategies (as well as their implementation) to reverse the growing shortage of qualified nursing personnel in Maryland.
