Formed in October 2000, the Committee evaluates progress in improving the quality of nursing home care statewide (Chapter 216, Acts of 2000). The Committee also monitors and evaluates implementation of recommendations made by the Task Force on Quality of Care in Nursing Facilities in its report of December 1999 (Chapter 382, Acts of 1999).
From the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the Deputy Secretary of Health Care Financing reports annually to the Committee on the status of the Medicaid Nursing Home Reimbursement System. Biannually, the Office of Health Care Quality in the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene reports to the Committee on implementation of the recommendations of the Task Force on Quality of Care in Nursing Facilities, and the status of quality of care in nursing homes. In the process of reviewing these reports, the Committee develops further proposals on how to improve nursing home care.
