The State Advisory Council on Pain Management was established in November 2002 (Chapter 368, Acts of 2002). The Council provides advice and recommendations regarding issues of acute and chronic pain management by Maryland health care providers, as well as the pain management needs of adults and children. State statutes and regulations relating to pain management therapies are studied by the Council. The Council also examines the use of alternative therapies for pain management, and studies the possibility of a hot line for pain management resources (Code Health-General Article, secs. 13-1601 through 13-1605).
